The latest edition of the medical device standard requires testing to 2.5
GHz, and work is progressing on the requirement to test other equipment to 2
GHz. This is to cover the 1.89GHz cell phones, and in the possibly in the
future the 2.4 GHz band.

If you have the option the purchase of a generator with an upper limit above
2.5 would be advisable as the newer standards could become mandatory in the
next 5 or so years (the medical standard is mandatory in 2004).

Subject: RE: NEW EMC Standards

Dear Group

I am on the point of specifying a new signal generator for in-house
radiated immunity testing. Does anybody out there have a feel for where the
upper test frequency limit is likely to go for industrial instruments
covered by EN 61326 and similar? Is it likely to remain at 1 GHz, or is an
extension to 2 GHz, or even higher seen on the far and distant horizon?

Thanks for your help

Ian Unwin
