I've run across the following color codes for line cords (quoted from
REDRB, Volume 2, page F-13):
* NEC-grounding conductor bare, green, or green with yellow stripe(s);
grounded conductor white or gray; phase 1 conductor black; phase 2
conductor red; phase 3 conductor blue or white; or follow the
European CEE color code.
* CEE color code-grounding conductor bare or green with yellow stripe;
neutral conductor blue; phase 1 conductor brown; phase 2 conductor
black; phase 3 conductor black.
* BS color code for non-flexible cables and fixed wiring-grounding
conductor bare or green with yellow stripe; neutral conductor black;
phase B conductor blue; phase Y conductor yellow; phase R
conductor or single-phase conductor red."
SAE AS50881 Revision A, Wiring Aerospace Vehicle, page 22, says that the
following color code may be used to indicate *wire size*:
* black = 26AWG
* blue = 24AWG
* green = 22AWG
* red = 20AWG
* white = 18AWG
* blue = 16AWG
* green = 14AWG
* yellow = 12AWG
* brown = 10AWG
* red = 8AWG
* blue = 6AWG
* yellow = 4AWG
* red = 2AWG
* white = 1AWG
* blue = 0AWG
SAE HS-1738, SAE Standard for Electrical Equipment for Automotive
Industrial Machinery, pages 117-118 specify:
* Green and Yellow for grounding conductors.
* Light blue for neutral conductors.
* For North America:
- White, natural grey, or a background color other than green with
3 white stripes for an earthed a.c. conductor.
- White with a blue stripe for an earthed d.c. conductor.
- White with a yellow stripe for an earthed a.c. conductor that
may remain energized with the disconnecting means in the off
position.
* Black for a.c. and d.c. power circuits.
* Red for a.c. control circuits.
* Blue for d.c. control circuits.
* Orange for excepted circuits and interlock control circuits, supplied
from an external power source.
