Two other generic potentials 1) The National Safe Transportation
Association, now the International Safe Transportation Association (ISTA)
instrumented trucks etc and used that data to come up with a test suite that
pretty well addresses shipping. It did identify problems with one packaging
solution we used. That allowed us to design the problem out. They have a
fairly hefty set of tests that are customized for individual shipment,
multi-units in a single over pack etc. It also identifies which tests are
intended to reproduce the hazards etc (never quite figured out why I would
want to run tests that didn't simulate the hazards but it is a choice and one
lot package vendors usually call out when bidding on packaging solutions. 2)
The ETSI 300-19 environmental tests also do a pretty handy job of defining
tests that will get your product there undamaged. As far as I know the latter
didn't instrument shipping modes - but surviving the tests pretty much
eliminates shipping damage, so it could be overkill.
If you really need the data, then I suggest that you first run a fragility
test (described in MIL-810F) on your equipment - and find the hazard level -
then instrument the trolley for a period of time to see if you are getting to
or above the hazard levels. Could be as simple as putting an energy absorber
between the trolley and the products, ore even pneumatic tires on the
trolleys. (I'm guessing from your note this is a intra-factory requirement)
The amount of data and effort is going to be directly related to the pain
and cost of the current problem. It certainly is less precise engineering to
rely on existing test suites but if it satisfies the problem it may be money
better spent.

In general, I have found that test profiles for shock and vibration should be
verified empirically in the end-use application. But if the resources to mount
transducers and recording devices in the transported equipment are not
available, there are some decent references published by the SAE and FedEx.
It has been my (anecdotal) experience that most of the energy from shipping
motion is below 30Hz, but I have seen more than one data run where impulses in
the 10s of kHz were recorded.

I'm planning a vibration test in order to simulate a transportation af a
trolley at a typical walking speed (1-6 km/h) over a road surface (I
suppose an internal building floor is a less critical environment). Could
anyone tell me where I can find a rationale to set the test parameters
(acceleration amplitude and frequency spectrum, test duration)? I have the
MIL STD 810 F curves for reference, but they seem to be not very
appropriate for this particular application.
