Devices in the category NKCR2 are usually evaluated to UL 508, Industrial Control Devices.
In practice, a lot of different things got evaluated to UL 508, including devices that were intended to installed in an electrical panel, devices that were intended to somehow connect to or monitor a motor or a motor circuit or a motor controller or a motor switch, and devices that were intended for commercial or industrial use only and for which there was no existing standard that was a very good fit. There were timers that got put under NKCR & NKCR2, but there are also a LOT of other types of devices that got put under NKCR & NKCR2 besides timers, including proximity switches (I think). Usually the Listing or Recognition page should have some general information about the devices covered, such as "Limit Switch" or "Transformer Modules" or "Open-Type, Terminal Block Adapters". On the other hand, when I just glanced at some of the cards on UL's site, I saw a lot of devices described as "Auxiliary Devices", which isn't exactly helpful. NMTR2 was another UL 508 catch-all category, it's title is now "Power-circuit and Motor-Mounted Apparatus", but 3 or 4 years ago it was something like "Miscellaneous Apparatus". UL is slowly trying to tighten up some of the category definitions because in about 10 years or so they want to harmonize with IEC 60947, which is much more exclusive than UL 508. Until then, you probably will find some timers under NKCR & NKCR2 (and maybe other UL 508 categories), but there will be a lot of other stuff in those categories as well. -Camille Good Portland, Oregon --- Gary McInturff <[email protected]> wrote: <<snip>> > They also have an NKCR2 "Auxiliary Devices" - > Component but I didn't look to > see what that was all about. <<snip>> This message is from the IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society emc-pstc discussion list.
