Hello EMC Experts,

We design and manufacture commercial kitchen appliances, some of which
are exported to the European Union. We're, therefore, obligated to submit
these products to outside vendors for testing to emission (BS EN 61000-6-3)
and immunity (BS EN 61000-6-1) EMC test programs. These test programs are
expensive. Additionally, we're relatively new at knowing and understanding EMC
requirements for CE-marked equipment.
We don't have any concerns about submitting new products to the EMC
test series. What we are concerned about is, that as product designs age,
invariably electrical components such as motors, motor drives, etc., are
changed. We need advice as to what level of re-test is needed for the change
of a major (or even minor) component. Would any such change require a complete
re-test to both standards or is a partial level of test acceptable? Could one
argue that a motor is a motor or a motor drive is a motor drive and,
therefore, no additional EMC testing would be specified?
Any comments or advice, either on-line or off-line, that the group
members would be willing to share is greatly appreciated.
