Part 3: General requirements 5.8 EMI radiation Communications equipment may also be the source of various kinds of electromagnetic disturbances in a wide frequency range, that may be conducted through power supply lines, control lines or directly radiated by the equipment. The communications equipment shall meet the requirements of CISPR 22 classes A and B (EN 55022A and EN 55022B) or FCC rules part 15 for class A and B digital devices 1 ( USA ). I’ve reviewed this standard as well as the remainder of the IEC 61850 series of standards and can’t find any additional guidance regarding which class to apply. I suspect Section 5.8 above is referencing EN55022 and FCC Part 15 for the test method in addition to the class criteria for both Class A and B and the respective limits. If this is the case and given the criteria for Class A and B per EN 55022, I would expect most devices that fall under the scope of IEC 61850-3 to require no more than Class A emission limits.
