Film capacitors are made of hydrocarbon films. Many hydrocarbon gases are
possible as well as carbon monoxide. Most are toxic and under the right
circumstances explosive.

Does anyone know if any gases with flammable or explosive properties are
given off when a film cap (e.g. X or Y caps) fails due to over-voltage?

        Thanks
