Hi John, Thanks for the feedback. I think this is where the confusion has come from. The amendment UK wiring regs states that changes have been made to harmonise with European requirements.
That said there are no requirements for DC cables in EN 60446 Cheers, Chris Allen Compliance Specialist 3Com Europe Ltd Peoplebuilding 2, Peoplebuilding Estate, Maylands Avenue, Hemel Hempstead , Hertfordshire HP2 4NW T: 44-1442-438308 F: 44-1442-438333 M: 44-7768-806801 E: chris_al...@3com.com <mailto: chris_al...@3com.com> www.3com.co.uk _______________________________________________________ www.h3cnetworks.com | www.3com.com | www.tippingpoint.com John Woodgate <j...@jmwa.demon.co.uk> Sent by: emc-p...@ieee.org 16/12/2009 15:07 To emc-p...@ieee.org cc Subject Re: Cable colours for DC wiring In message <ofaa85ddb8.908a78da-on8025768e.004d38c6-8025768e.004dd...@3com.com>, dated Wed, 16 Dec 2009, chris_al...@3com.com writes: >Does anyone know if there is a harmonised standard for the colours of >external DC wiring (mains supply) in Europe? > >Particularly interested in the colours for 2 wire earthed DC power >circuits with positive earth. See Appendix 7 of BS 7671:2008, IEE Wiring Regulations, 17th edition. Table 7E gives Positive (earthed) Blue, negative Grey as 'new colours'. The 'old colours' were Positive (earthed) Black, negative Blue. Potential for confusion infinite! The relevant Europe-wide documents are: HD 308 S2:2001 (harmonized document, not a standard) BS EN 60445:2000 (marking of terminals) BS EN 60446:2000 (colours or markings of cables) -- OOO - Own Opinions Only.
