I check the BIOS settings for that port. It's PS/2, which allows bidirectional access and defaults to the normal I/O pin configuration. At some point I'll change that to AT, which should force the data bits to output-only, and see if that makes the thing behave better. But not for a while... That box dual-boots a token Windows image for our tax program, so I can't swap it out right now. I do have a 1.4 GHz P4 Optiplex in my heap, though, so maybe I should do some experiments with that one. I cut a cam from scratch yesterday evening and it's -gorgeous-. No ridges, no gouges, no divots, no problems. It's simply the chunk of metal those things were supposed to be from the start. Tah-dum! For what it's worth, the Lords of Cosmic Jest discarded my copy of Digest 11-26, which had any replies anybody made to my original post: I'm not ignoring 'em, I simply haven't seen 'em! That digest isn't in my spam box, either, so it was filtered or dropped well upstream of me.
