Apparently that seal didn't work too well. Almost all CW guns rusted  
out from the corrosive leftovers of black powder.
The nitride is for corrosion resistance.
In addition I'm trying a couple of different approaches to the gas  
seal hoping one of them will work with the
mating tapered ring on the rear of the barrel.

8620 hardens well with a water or oil quench and will provide good  
backing for the nidride.
