Yeah, its a Compaq, and probably has oddball bussing the kernel doesn't grok.  
Sometimes a bios update can help, but its still a Compaq...  I wish I could 
tell you differently, but that's been my personal experience, and its 
moderately well recorded on the web.  Sorry.
