Machine Dell optiplex110, 1GHz, 384 Meg memory,  recent Ubuntu installed 
and working. 
Machine is neither on line nor networked.

downloaded CD checksum OK on both of two different downloads/ CDs.

When booting from CD:

all options except boot from first hard disk result in:

Ubunto logo shows

load bar shows bright for about 4 pixels

loading essential drivers....                 ok
mounting root file system ...

Hangs at this point.  Nothing happens for more than 30 minutes.

Same results with two different downloads / CDs.

Booting from hard disk works OK.

Any suggestions??
