If you had a part feature that was set to 3.00 inches from the home position last time, then that coordinate alignment is set up again, until you change it. You cahnge it with the "touch off" button, and set some machine position to whatever alignment you now need for the next part.
It works this way so you can do production work from one day to the next without having to use an edge finder or some other procedure to locate your coordinate system every time you turn EMC on.
