I think if you look through the archives, you'll see that Steve (the 
other Steve) is looking for the ability to pause a running program, then 
do some things manually, then resume the running program.  At the 
moment, this is not as easy to do with EMC2 as it is with some other 
controls.  There are changes in CVS TRUNK that may make it work a bit 
closer to what he wants.  Steve - how about trying those changes out and 
letting us know if they work for you?

The feedhold HAL input merely causes the motion controller to stop the 
motors in a controlled way, it doesn't change modes to allow manual/MDI 
movement.
