Sudo mount ....etc answers mount point media/floppy does not exist
Fdisk .........etc answers unable to open dev/fda
Gee Whiz this isn't half getting difficult.
I'm still wondering if it is not something to do with the partitioning.

I do manual mounts in a terminal session:

sudo mount

This will list mounted devises, /dev/fda0 /media/floppy or something
similar might be listed. If not

sudo mount /dev/fda0 /media/floppy

mounts the first partition (0 or whatever yours is), first drive (a). I
haven't used a floppy for quite a while so I'm guessing at some of this.

You can also check:

fdisk /dev/fda

to see if the drive is being seen at a lower level.

I suspect your drive is not functioning at all. Maybe check to see that
the power and data cables are connected and the BIOS (CMOS) has the
controller enabled.
