Jeff,

Thank you for your response.

Is it possible to simply compile the module and copy it in place???

I did try to download the source package for the rtai image that I am
running but ended up with a different version of the source...

apt-get source linux-image-2.6.24-16-rtai

downloaded, extracted and applied diffs for linux_2.6.24-21.

I copied the config file from my /boot partition to .config in the build
directory, modified for CONFIG_DM_CRYPT=m; ran make oldconfig followed
by 'make';

all seemed to go well up to the failed insmod...

insmod: error inserting '/usr/src/linux-2.6.24/drivers/md/dm-crypt.ko':
-1 Invalid module format

(from dmesg)
[41163.530307] dm_crypt: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module

Is there a simple way to solve this? or am I destined for the rabbit
hole of kernel dev/sysadmin...

Is there anything I can do to help get the additional CONFIG_DM_ targets
enabled in the current/next release or update???

Thanks again for your help and attention.

Tom
