If you're using AXIS, you can add to the default suffix list by
specifying
[FILTERS]
PROGRAM_EXTENSION = .xyzzy My favorite extension
when you do this, .xyzzy files will be shown by default, and you'll be
able to double-click to open them.
However, this does not change the behavior when you type a filename
without an extension -- I think that in this case, only the default
extension is tried as a possibility. There's not currently a way to
modify this behavior.
