        I think you may be right about that. I thought that I went into a file 
that was downloaded with emc . I will try to get the computer on line and try 
your way. The computer is not connected to the internet right now because it 
was a older computer and I was only going to use it to run the lathe. I 
downloaded emc off of a cd. Thanks Ron

I have that nagging feeling that you may have downloaded the bit of gcode for 
the chess pawn on a windows box, then moved it to the linux install somehow.

How close am I?

Please use the web browser on the linux box that emc is installed on to go 
get that file.  I think it will solve your problem.  Windows downloads tend 
to make windows compatible line end conversions if the file is a text file, 
and gcode properly is text, and that conversion by adding the carriage 
returns to the line feeds that linux (and any unix) doesn't need but windows 
does, and does not play well on a linux box.

For that exact reason, my emc box has a network card, and a hunk of cat5 
cable strung across the back yard to the shop building the emc driven machine 
is living in.
