There has to be a reasen why the motor overheats. It's either mechanically or
electrically.
If you can eliminate electrical sources (amp matches motor, weired accelerations
or vibrations) then there should be mechanical ones.

Did you disassemble the broken motor to find out why it overheats?
If not, try. You can't make it more broken.->

- Are the brarings ok or do they look wrong ?
- are the windings burnd, if so, at what position  ?
- is the motor dry inside? maybe some liquids like oil or cooling water came
into the motor?
- Do you see dirt wich does not belong there?

By the way, is your y axis horizontally or vertically alligned?
