Pickconfig searches for ini files in the "system sample config dir" and 
under ~/emc2/configs.  The system sample directory may be under 
/usr/share/<...> or somewhere in a run-in-place directory.

I agree that it's weird that it wasn't "g540.ini" in the error message.

Dave, did you start with the G540.stepconf file from the wiki?  If so, 
did you load it in stepconf, make any necessary scale changes, and then 
save?
