Hello again. Thank you all for your excellent suggestions. I have Inkscape working with the Gcodetools extensions generating toolpaths.The bezier curve tool was confusing at first, but I've used it to outline the shapes I needed. I am looking forward to trying some of your other hints too.
My friends are redecorating their daughter's bedroom. They asked if I could cut out some stylized butterfly shapes on my table - I can now! The kids will continue to think i'm a cool dad (at least until they're old enough to see how nerdy I am...) You guys are a big help.
