On high traffic lists it can confuse, because there are so many threads
to mentally resync with. (See the sig ;-)

But here it's quite manageable, I find, since top posts usually include
enough context to make it unnecessary to find and read the trailing
quoted text, then shuffle back up to have a second go at the top post.

Anyway, there are too many good ideas, and too much goodwill, on
Emc-users, for any of that to be worth worrying about, I reckon.

P.S. I'll top post in personal emails to non-technical recipients, if
     not replying in-line, but not on a mail list, because of my
     respect for the reader. (Who may be on half a dozen lists,
     receiving hundreds of posts per day.)
