You can certainly use EMC2.
Are there no drives with the machine? If they exist then EMC2 can
probably control them.
What sort of motors are fitted, with what manner of feedback?
EMC2 allows you to use much cheaper servo drives by doing all the hard
sums inside the controller.
However, if you can find some generic servo drives going cheap, then
you ought to be able to use them too.
