I don't think that's the case here, though because the spammer would have had to have known that Gary was a member of this list. Most likely his password got compromised and his address book was used to send the message.
That's been the case for most instances of this that I've seen lately. Although usually the content is a plea for money to settle up a hotel bill in an obscure foreign country... Gary, did everyone in your address book receive this message?
