Gene, I don't have experience with the G540, I am using the Vampire series which are a great set of drivers but they are not faultless!! But there return and support on broken drivers are very good.
I did hear some good news from the UIM 2400xx series www.uirobot.com I know a couple of guys using them on there mechmates without issues.
