Yes, I think that the encoder would go to both the drive and the PC and be used by both. Not that I have ever used one. Step-Direction servo drives are a kludge mainly aimed at the Mach3 market as an easy upgrade to steppers. > Then I think it would be better to go to some other type of interface that > can do that in one move! Anybody using these FPGA based controller cards > here? Or the pico solution, what do they do? I think a large proportion of us use Mesa and/or Pico hardware. I don't think many of the active/vociferous users on this list/forum/IRC are still using the bare parallel port, it is just too limiting. Jon(Pico) and Pete (Mesa) are active in the EMC2 project, and offer good backup. There are also other alternatives: http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?EMC2_Supported_Hardware is a partial list, but more gets added all the time. > > Also, i know I have to call them but maybe somebody has experience for > these servo motors: *KL23-130-60 (NEMA23) dual Shaft $79.95 Skewed Rotor * > http://www.kelinginc.net/ServoMotors.html > Do i need to get the readout encoder or does it come with it? You would need to add an encoder, there are links on the previous page (which my link bypassed) http://www.kelinginc.net/ServoMotor.html > I suppose this would be a brushed DC motor? Yes. > Brush-less I bet is much more expensive? Not more expensive for the motor. 50 oz.in is 0.35Nm, and 350oz.in is 2.5Nm so http://www.kelinginc.net/23BLMotor.pdf the 115 size is broadly similar, and cheaper. However it is likely to be more expensive to drive. (and more "interesting") Don't be put off by the "interesting", all I mean is that it might take some experimentation to get it spinning properly with the selected drive. -- atp "Torque wrenches are for the obedience of fools and the guidance of wise men" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get a FREE DOWNLOAD! and learn more about uberSVN rich system, user administration capabilities and model configuration.
