This looks like a wound-up linear drive: high torque because of large radius, but high demand for precision mounting. Very interesting, also for other things than tools and machines (e.g., quick pointing telescope and dome drives). Not shown is the drive electronics - like in the used car ads, the item not mentioned mostly is the crutch. And better not ask for prices.
