There would be no possibility of fighting these folks. In a way they do
us a favor. While we do have a big history under the EMC name, the
value of which is not trivial, "EMC" comes up short in terms of
descriptiveness and search-ability as the multiple "hits" cited in
previous messages illustrates. Now, often projects (and companies)
change their name just to seek attention, or "create news" especially
when they have no real, technical, accomplishments to boast of. If we
had done the name change without the "threat", critics could point to
us and say, "See, they change their name just to make noise!" Now we
can gain the benefits of the better name, and if challenged, we can
reply, "But we had to!"

Normally I'm as difficult and contrary as anyone about being pushed
around by bullies. In this case though, I just can't work up my usual
angry lather due to the advantages of "going along" in this case.
