My limit switches are at the ends of the travel farthest away from the chuck both axis(X & Z) I have no clue what s/b means, to set up your tools I set mine up to the end of the part you are going to machine after I face it off a little then take a cut on the od and set your tool to that This link should explain how to set up your lathe tools http://linuxcnc.org/docs/html/lathe_lathe-user.html

Where does one normally put home switches on a bench style lathe? I have been assuming the carriage (Y) s/b zeroed with the cutting tools edge exactly on centerline, with Z (the leadscrew) zeroed at the face of the chuck. BTDT, even tore old 40 wire IDC cables apart & split off what I needed, but since those are only 18" long, usually too short. I did have one 2 feet long but that exceeded the specs, and as expected, trashed too much data. I first blamed the drive but when a fresh drive needed to be e2fck'd the second time in a week, the old drive, on a shorter cable was put back in. Worked till I retired the box in favor of an Intel D525MW. > I miss having a full-featured electronics shop nearby. The Shack just > don't cut it for much more than solder and flux anymore.
