In the right-hand column on page 6, they mention a 270 ohm internal resistor, so you've hit it, Kirk. Being interested in a couple of simple stepper drivers, I'll take a look at these too. (I'd looked at one from Magenta Electronics, but it didn't seem to drop the coil current on idle.)
