I know there is an appeal for a controller that can do wifi and other neat things, but just in case this could be the solution you didn't know you needed:
http://www.megasquirt.info/ A few years back an open engine controller was designed. I think this is the latest version of it. The advantage is that ALL the features are documented and there is forum help if you're having troubles. This gets you further down the development road quicker.
