I didn't want to harp on it... but I would want to determine whether the error was cumulative or not. I even agree that 2um is nothing, but several 2um errors that accumulate every time you rapid across the table makes it totally unusable. If you want the track on the carriage so there are no moving wires, so be it - it will stick out past the ends of travel. Protecting those sticky-out parts would not be rocket science...? Not as pretty, but it would have the advantage of working correctly.
