This is something I realised recently too. I have made a start on a GladeVCP GUI which imports an image file, then feeds that to a realtime component that generates an XY raster pattern and synchronised intensity value for laser rastering applications. There is no G-code anywhere in the system. Effectively the image file becomes the program.
