A litre of petrol in the UK is about £1.35. That includes VAT@20%, so the base price is £1.125 Of that, £0.5795 is fuel duty. so, the base price is 54p a litre, and we pay 81p tax on top. Of course, that is nowhere near the true value of the base material, considering the production rate.
