I think the problem is that in order to try a "known" good set of config
files, I used the ppmc configs from LinuxCNC rather than my old lathe
config files. I think the files I used didn't load the estop latch or
similar component, so when LinuxCNC tried to connect the e-stop pins on
loading, it barfed.

I went through and mapped out all of the connections and settings on
paper, and restored the e-stop system on my lathe and everything is
working fine. I'm also updating all the old newsig's to net's and
cleaning up some of the old hacks to new hacks.
