Hi, I'm going to use LinuxCNC to control an art installation which is basically a four axis CNC machine.
I'm going to get me a MESA card, a 5i25 should be sufficient. I never used one of these, but I don't expect any serious problems. What bothers me more is where to get suitable motors and gearboxes. For educational reason I want to use DC brush-less servos and encoders, but that's not absolutely necessary, so simple DC motors might do the job just fine. I need a small motor, about 50 mm in diameter, that can deliver a quite high torque of about 2.5N/m, but it dose not have to run fast, 100 rpm would be more than sufficient. So I guess I'll end up using a gearboxes and small motors. The problem is, that the drive system needs to be as quite as possible. That's another reason, besides personal interest, that makes me think I should go for DC brush-less servos. So, any recommendations on where to look for motors (and drivers) and gears? Any tips to get thinks smooth and quite? Thanks Florian ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Everyone hates slow websites. So do we.
