Aaron I usually fit a small switch mode PSU (1A to 3A) to my control box to power proximity switches and relays. Some breakout boards will supply 24v already but I always provide my own 24v. I am not sure about the 5V units but as far as I know the industrial quality stuff can run from 10V to 30V or round about there.
