Either way Andy, this is the seed for me to see if I can figure out a way
to rig my lathes spindle speed PID lashup to compensate for a possible
switch in the backgear ratio, which with the OEM motor was rarely switched
from low gear because the OEM motor was way too puny to consider high speed
for anything but polishing the finished part.

When I put the bigger motor in, the jackshaft gave me about a 3/1
reduction, but its always bothered me that the PID tuning for low gear was
unstable in high gear. I have used low gear a time or two, but with the 3/1
in the jackshaft, its not very often so I am 'tuned' for high gear, and can
get to maybe 1800 revs that way. But the treadmill motor is doing 12 grand
or more then. Thank $DEITY its flywheel/fan is very well balanced, but
still, its an iron casting nearly 6" in diameter that could make some very
interesting shrapnel.

An even longer hal file in my future? Maybe. Thanks for the mental
tickle. Printed FFR.

Cheers, Gene
