so - they want something like this? (thanks cmorley - (even if it was
just a proof of concept)... :) )

It is 'beauty is in they eye' as when I look at mach screen sets I think
of flash video games.

I read a lot of post like this - it seems to boil down to (in order of
occurrence)

-Linux is hard (but most have not even tried - or tried it 10 years ago..)
-you have to be a programmer to setup run linuxcnc
-There is no screen editor. <- not true anymore - Gscreen (although it
probably helps to be a programmer... ;) ) .
-No rfl (mostly from mach users on why not to use linuxcnc)
-Slow cutting speeds with short segments . I have seen a slight
increase in these posts. People switching to linuxcnc from mach for
stability but unable to get mach top speeds with the same hardware. (I
can confirm this and maybe there are some solutions in the works - No
pressure Robert E ;) )
-and recently - 'People that use LinuxCNC seem to like it but without
the parallel port I'm not sure what the future is for it. I heard it
won't work with the Smooth stepper like Mach3 does.' (smooth stepper
$180 + mach $150 vs linuxcnc + 5i25 for $89)

(only 2 of the above are really true at the moment and maybe only 1 as
mhaberler has a good handle on rfl)
