I think, from talking to the Tormach guys at some meetings,
that it started out as made from some pretty stock castings
that were used for other makes, but it is hard to tell as
they add a bunch of custom enclosure stuff to it.  Then, over
time, they made refinements to the original design, so
it has less in common with other machines.  But, I THINK,
if you compare their machine without the covers to something
from Smithy, the basic castings may look quite similar.

But, I have to admit I don't REALLY know the whole story.
