There is one, "Hobby Stop" in Bridgeport, and I intend to hit them as the
first 2 choices if I make the trip. It has occurred to me that while I
have 3 of these ball screws, the third one is not going in, at least in
this project, so I can borrow a screw from it & baggie the rest of that
nut for later use.

Getting slow in my dotage I guess, I didn't think of that ready made spare
until after I had posted. That plus I made up my mind to lose some lard
this spring, and saw 156.6 lbs on the scales this morning. Reducing the
load on my worn out, used up back, it was carrying 205 12 years ago when I
retired. Way too wide for my height. 5'8" 60 years ago, 5'2.5" now. I
figure something around 140-145 ought to look good in the hallway mirror.

But the "Hobby Stop" was on my list & will be at some point. My selection
of telescoping brass tubing is getting poor & needs replenished. And it
looks as if I should also pick up some solid brass rod of similar size in
case I have to make one.

But replacing the Z screw in this POS with one of those 13"ers depends on
if I have enough down travel from where the nut holder is welded to the
post extension, the existing screw, also my design, is half a 3 foot 10
tpi 1/2" acme. I adjust the backlash there by re-timing two 10 tpi nook
nuts screwed into each end of the ball bearing supported, rotating nut
carrier, the screw doesn't turn, and now that I have roller (ball bearing)
feet on the head casting, it will do 1 to 2 thou backlash pretty reliably
with no stiction. Hiding one of these ball nuts inside that contraption
will be fun. Not impossible, but fun, depending on one's definition of
"fun" ;-).

Thanks for the quick reply with a useful suggestion Greg, its appreciated.

Cheers, Gene Heskett
