Greetings; The old man got educated a wee bit this evening, after finding and jumpering two broken traces on the new encoder board. Morale of that story, don't use rat shack board, the copper can I believe, be seen thru with enough lamp power
Spindle then worked and I was able to reduce the noise on the encoder velocity output of the 5i25 to about 1/4th of what it was. But when I hit ctl+home, only the backplot for X moved, the motor was silent. Hit the esc key, and a few arrow keys disclosed that I could only run X in, but not out so it could not find the home switch. I could however, see the correct signals in the BOB's led's. I had the same timings in the ini file for DIRSETUP, DIRHOLD and the stepper timings that have worked for 18 months in the software stepper config. Other than the 5i25 setting the dir line high (where it did run the motor) when motion stops, whereas the software stepper leaves it in the last direction it moved. Putting 2 & 2 together, I moved the cable to the parport and ran the software only config. Everything that I have working so far, worked as expected, no only one direction glitches. So I came in, its raining out, and a thought hit me. Looking up that motor driver on the wiki, I see that someone has obtained some timing data for the 2m542. My ini settings were only 2500ns for that whereas the wiki says 5000 and 8000 ns. Humm, at 2500ns, there is no way the software can do that as its staging the dirchange, and doing the first step 25,000ns later, in the next pass thru the base thread loop, meaning there was no way in creation they could be violated. But the 5i25 can do exactly what you tell it except for leaving the dir line in a last state condition Called up an ssh -Y session, ran gedit and changed the timings to what I could read on the wiki page now, data that was not there a couple years back when I bought these drivers. Saved it, went back out, getting dribbled on, and checked it, and now it moves perfectly. So, todays lesson for the old fart is go check the wiki's data, even if it wasn't there 18 months ago, it just might be there now. :) So, a big tip of the hat to whoever did the leg work to discover those timings, thank you very much.
