I used to be a fan of USD. I made my lathe encoders using their 2" disks
and sensors and they are still working well.

I still like the idea of using disks and sensors and making the rest but 
it's not nearly as cheap as it used to be.

1" Disk, 1000 CPR = $9 @ 50 qty
Sensor = $25 @ 50 qty

Then come up with housings = $?
