I owned waterjet cutting machine for 6 years and did a complete
retrofit of CNC controls (yes, of course, LinuxCNC is running that
machine at the moment). Feel free to drop an email with any questions
you have, I will try to answer as good as I can.

IMHO that kinematics system of rotating the nozzle around TCP is very
nice and the main reason it is so widely used is because it is very
compact in dimensions. I have been trying to come up with something as
compact like that to be used in the 5 axis plasma machine I intend to
build for myself, but I have not come up with anything useful.
I have no idea, how is it called, I just know that timing belt is used
to drive that tilted rotary joint.
