Thank you guys.

It is called a "Ratchet mechanism". The crimp-tool hint gave me
inspiration for search direction.

Now, the chime mechanism might be the way to go for finding the right
mechanism. And, oh boy, there are many versions of the ratchet mechanism.

More hints (and links) still welcome.
