No, not screw on, on this one its a flange that is machined on the spindle. The chucks have an interference fit pocket a couple mm's deep, on the rear face that fits the rim of the flange, and are tapped for 3 6mm studs that come thru 3 holes in the flange. Properly translated it works out to mean no room for fingers (unless the fingers are only 6 months old) to hold the nut while trying to start it on the studs threads. THere is no place it can be turned so as to get away from the houseing, so while its only 3 washers & nuts, its still north of an hour to change a chuck. I've had better luck restarting the nuts with a pair of suture clamps, but the nut will still get knocked loose and dropped quite a few times before you succeed. Calling it a PITA is a serious understatement. It has one, and only one advantage, no possibility of unscrewing the chuck while rigid threading. The limit in how fast the reversal can be done is the drive train itself, so I've had to set it up so the reversal is done gently enough to not damage the timing felt, and the countershaft its drive pulley is on has to be braced very rigidly against the bottom of the lathes bed. If it flexes, the belt comes slack and hops a few teeth & the whole job is trashed. Even with the OEM 350 watt motor on it, its capable of breaking drive parts. Thanks Andy.
