Grizzly has South Bend lathes made in Taiwan. Unlike most Asian metal lathes, 
the new South Bend ones are changed quite a bit from any others of similar size.
They did discontinue the 8K, which was somewhat based on the common Compact 8 
clones. The bed was beefed up, different headstock, tailstock, gearbox and 
apron too. Unfortunately they left the cross slide and compound slide the same 
old poor designs, and used cogged belts to drive the gearbox instead of gears.

Yeah, generations of South Bend workers are spinning in their graves right now.
The name is all that is left, and it is being plastered on Chinese tools.  I 
don't care
if they are the best quality tools ever made, I think its just wrong.  South 
Bend
Lathe Company is dead, let it rest in peace.
