If it's a 10EE then parts are readily available due to Monarch having made so
darn many of them and theoretically the model is still available. They'll even
upgrade old ones to the newest electrics.
If it's any other model of Monarch lathe, good luck finding replacements for
missing parts. Monarchs that are not the 10EE model tend to only get parted out
when the beds are thrashed or they've suffered massive gear damage in the
headstock or gearbox.
I have a 12CK I rescued from a scrapyard for $400. It was missing a cover plate
on the headstock, had a couple of broken handles and the tailstock was missing.
Took quite a while to find a tailstock. It's a very nice lathe, not for sale,
not ever.
I've thought about making a CNC platform for it. Essentially it would be an XY
table that mounts to the ways. With the VFD running the motor a serial adapter
could be added to control the spindle. Whenever CNC isn't needed the system
could simply be removed. No alterations to the lathe so it retains original
manual function.
