Progress. Everything with power on it is now working, which means the vfd
and the encoder, the noise is gone from the encoders velocity trace on
the halscope. I ran the motor from 16 Hz up to 140Hz, which is about
2600 at the spindle according to a halmeter X 60. One thing I am
noticing is that with the VFD set to shut down the motor at 15Hz, just
to keep it from overheating, is that the stop is a very brutal DC
braking, so I'll have to reduce that braking current even more. Or lower
the minimum speed it will run at.

What sort of settings are those using a vfd using for minimum speed, and
how much braking current? 1 horse motor, 1.5 horse vfd.

I made some changes in the amanda configuration and am hoping I can get a
backup of the /boot dir tonight.
