+1. Please don't laugh, but I once made a boring bar out of a file, 'cos it was the weekend, and I didn't have anything small enough. Yes it cut, but you couldn't do enough spring passes to get it to cut to the depth wound on the crossfeed dial. So I drilled a square bit of bar, and slotted it to hold a small end mill so its corner could serve as a boring tooth. Problem gone. That's the one problem with insert tooling. Any inserts I have won't go in a small bore. As in Gene's case, I had remarkably high lag in cutting depth, before it was remedied.
